Fabrics

I was up last night until 2:20am planning my fabric orders. I am absolutely exhausted today as Jax was up until 1am as well...wanting nothing more than to held by the mama. I think I have my complete order ready. It's going to be amazing - herringbone, velour, cotton, sherpa, ribbons, fleece, terry...lots of texture and gorgeous colors and patterns. AND...all in organic fabrics. I'm hoping to have all of my fabrics in by the beginning of next week.
This moss green velour caught my eye last night that I absolutely HAD to work into the collection somehow. It is beautiful...

Emotions and Such

Yesterday was a HUGE day for us (or me, anyways). When I say us, I guess I refer to myself and all of my seamstresses - everyone involved in butters&beans. It was very emotional for me. First, I had my first meeting with Nancy at Liz J. Designs to start the website at none other than my favorite place - Starbucks. We discussed the layout of the site, other sites I liked, other sites I didn't like, and how I wanted to push traffic to the site. Then, my accountant. I actually ended up liking him quite a bit. He set up the paperwork for the S-Corp (I still can't believe I'm the majority shareholder of a corporation) and then I had to bring it over to the Secretary of State's office to move the process along quickly so I could open my bank accounts which I plan on doing today. By the time we got back, I had some family errands to run, some eBay stuff to take care of, and then off to a meeting with Rose McKinney PR. LOVE them. Met with Eva Keiser who I was impressed with and liked quite a bit. I think they could do an amazing job with buttersandbeans PR, but I'm curious to see what they come back with for a quote. I have to be sooooo careful with every dollar that I spend right now. I meet with another company tonight and have a TON of errands to run today.
Jax was up almost all night last night and had a really hard time sleeping (both of us, obviously). If I ever needed a good night's sleep, last night was the night.

Accountants

So, I think accountants are odd people to begin with - who wants to do math all day, right? Ish. Well I had to move my appointment tomorrow with a business accountant as Jax has a doctor's appointment (can't be helped) and so I called them to do this, and omg you'd think I just stole the queen's crown. Needless, I just canceled with this firm all together (by hanging up on them - yes, I did), and called someone else. These are such an ODD group. So the next person I called to schedule with (another referral) was just as weird. His pricing wasn't firm which drives me insane and he was already trying to talk me into using him to set up my corp...when I told him the law firm I was using there was an odd pause. They're a pretty good firm. Mama has good taste (and good friends with good taste). :) And the picture is just cool...

Is just in love with her fall fabric...

I keep looking at it...over and over. I can't wait to get my hands on it and mix in all of my textures I picked out to go with it. We'll be doing herringbone, fleece, sherpa and french terry with the cotton prints...I really think it will be amazing.
I'm also realizing how exciting it is to be a US based company, NOT producing overseas and paying our employees livable wages. Love it.

Vistaprint...

It is so easy to get sucked in at vistaprint...putting your logo on just about anything. I went for business cards and ended up leaving with canvas bags and pens, too. But they ARE super cute, so of course I had to pay the rush charge so I get them right away next week. :)

Fabrics for Fall 2010...

I've chosen my fabrics! I am so excited...I wish I could share them but they have to remain hush-hush for now. Maybe after we have our photography done I will share a couple samples. It is absolutely amazing. Beautiful patterns and ultra-soft velours and fleeces. Maybe even some sateen thrown in for good texture measure. :)
PR is so interesting. I haven't picked an agency yet, but meet with three next week.
Also working closely with my sewing team, and impressed with their creativity and dedication...loving this.

butters&beans - buttersandbeans

organic, eco-friendly and recycled baby clothes! I am so excited to start the web development. I am in love with maajiswimwear.com, and aguabendita.com.co - these are the models I'm using but will have the set-up be much more user-friendly.

So much to do...

Sooooooooo little time. My days just fly. Between butters, Log, my big baby, sewing, PR, websites...it gets a little overwhelming. Just a little controlled chaos.
On the flip, I'm loving this fabric, and had fun working with it last night and today! It's by Kokka - the backing is in an organic sherpa. I adore the scooters!

And I MUST add:

I am missing Miami Fashion Week. This is sad for me. I can't even think about it. I hate missing the Red Carter, Ed Hardy and Cia Maritima shows. Ugh.

Boys Clothing

Making boys clothing is actually easier to product than girls - however finding embellishments and trim is harder. Also, mommies are willing to pay more for cute girls clothing than for cute boys clothing, so it's more difficult to sell in the long run. People say they want it, but when I make it, it sits. So I've had some requests, and I ordered some SUPER cute boy fabric last night - some Circa50 and some Japanese, I believe both organics. I know for sure the Circa50 was, but it was 1:30am and I don't quite remember the details. Jaxie was up at 4am, and half way slept till 5, so I was pretty much up at 5 after only just going to bed at 1:30. 3 and a half hours of sleep seems to be the norm these days, but my body seems to be okay with it and functioning. Not sure what my next project will be for today - I have the Juicy Couture bib to finish up, but it's kind of annoying me - and I have the brown and pink polka dot pant/bib set I want to do as well with the pink ruffle at the bottom of the leg. I'm just not really feeling either of those today and really wanting to do some boy stuff - hoping the terry comes in the mail today with the retro cars. Posting a pic of the cute dress I finished yesterday! It's not picturing well and that is annoying me too - it's sooooo cute and the pics aren't doing it justice.

A new dress for all baby girls...

Since my dresses have been getting so many hits, I've been concentrating on cranking out as many as possible. I did another red and white (pictured) and worked on another vintage looking print last night. I pulled in some Swarovski crystals and it looks amazing. I'm loving that I managed to pull it off - all but the bottom hem because I want to add trim - in about three hours as opposed to two days. I'm amazed with myself...that I had the patience to teach myself - that I've only been doing this for about three weeks. I can't wait till six months from now to see what I can do then. I want to be able to do swim at some point. I have such an obsession and passion for swim...

Obsessed

I am so much in love with creating childrens garments it's kind of scary...whenever I have even so much as a moment, I'm sewing, researching, marketing, shopping for fabric...doing SOMETHING that relates to the label that I am creating. I have such a particular vision, a plan for the future. I've NEVER had this before. I've never had such a clear vision of where I want my life to go. It's exciting, scary, passionate, creates anxiety, love...
I'm obsessed with trim right now. I put rosette trim on the last pair of pants I did (a super cute Alexander Henry print called Juicy - how appropriate for me) as well as on the bib. Last night I bought a Jolee hot fix putter-onner thingy but it kind of sucks - my Bedazzler should be here today and I am stoked. I can't wait to bling some of the patterns with Swarovski.
Will post pics.
